Acrylic Ship Windows

Naval Architecture is in the time of transition. New materials are being used every day to fulfill the special requirements of today’s ship owners. Marine Glazing are one of the fields in which technology reaches to peak points.

As a break resistant, high performance material Acrylic has been used for the deepest diving submarine windows for over 40 years. Touristic semi-submarines and survey vessels nowadays use large rectangular windows made predominantly from acrylic. Acrylic side scuttles can even even be found in yachts. Near the water line (e.g. between 0 and 50cm above according some societies) windows need to show the same strength and durability as submersed windows. Hydrosight’s acrylic ship windows are a good choice for that.

Portholes come in all kinds of shapes and contour. The acrylic material can be cut relatively easy even in small quantities. Forming of the glass, eg. for windscreens is possible. Former problems such as optical degradation and limited life span due to strong sun light can be prevented with the right choice of material. Hydrosight gives up to 30 years warranty on optical quality of our windows.

Hydrosight window blocks have an up-to-date material certificate by Germanischer Lloyd (GL). For vessels with other certification cross-licencing is possible.
