Acrylic Ship Windows
Naval Architecture is in the time of transition. New materials are being used every day to fulfill the special requirements of today's ship owners.
As a break resistant, high performance material acrylic has been used for the deepest submarine windows for over 40 years. Since sunlight does not pose a problem to the life span of the newest acrylic any more it replaces now more and more float glass for the traditional porthole material.
Marine Glazing, e.g. side scuttles or portholes, is one of the fields in which technology reach to peak points. Very High Resistant Glass to cope with hard ocean conditions, special coatings and interlayer for sun control and acoustic reduction are some examples of high glazing technologies that is used for marine vehicles today.
Thanks to our experience and technologies in hand, Hydrosight has all the potential to satisfy increasingly demanding specifications required on marine glazing.
Lloyds Register of Shipping (LRoS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABoS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and other classification societies have ether showed interest or have already approved the use of acrylic for ship windows. Hydrosight Plexiglas ® is certified by the German Lloyd.
